Amblyopia, commonly known as "lazy eye," is a condition in early childhood where vision in one eye does not develop properly. The eye itself may look normal, but because the brain favors the other, "stronger" eye, it fails to build a strong neural pathway to the weaker eye.
This is the leading cause of vision loss in children, but it is highly treatable if detected early. Treatment involves "forcing" the brain to use the weaker eye, traditionally with patching or drops.
At Trivision Eye Hospital, we are committed to utilizing the latest advancements in technology. We offer BYNOCS (Binocular Nyctalopia Occlusion System), a state-of-the-art software designed to provide personalized amblyopia therapy.
This advanced tool is built on the principle of providing targeted visual stimulation to the weaker eye while engaging *both eyes* in a synchronized, binocular manner.
Unlike traditional patching, which can be uncomfortable and socially difficult for children, BYNOCS therapy is built around engaging and interactive visual exercises. By turning therapy into a game, we see higher compliance and enthusiasm from our pediatric patients.
The BYNOCS software creates interactive visual experiences that engage the child’s attention. This encourages the weaker eye to actively participate and helps the brain learn to use both eyes together, stimulating visual pathways and improving visual acuity.
BYNOCS offers dynamic and captivating visual exercises that children enjoy, making therapy sessions more effective.
The software adapts to the child’s progress, providing a tailored treatment plan that evolves with their visual development.
BYNOCS has shown promising results in improving not just visual acuity (clarity) but also in enhancing binocular vision (the ability to use both eyes as a team), which is crucial for 3D depth perception.
By incorporating BYNOCS into our amblyopia therapy programs, we’re able to provide a more comprehensive and effective treatment approach. If your child is undergoing amblyopia therapy at our hospital, you can rest assured that they are benefitting from the latest advancements in vision care technology.

Amblyopia, or "lazy eye," is when vision in one eye doesn't develop correctly during childhood. The eye itself may look normal, but the brain favors the other, "stronger" eye. It must be treated early to "force" the brain to use the weaker eye.
The most common causes are Strabismus (a squint or eye turn) or a significant difference in glasses prescription (refractive error) between the two eyes. Anything that causes the brain to "ignore" the input from one eye can lead to amblyopia.
Patching the "strong" eye is a traditional treatment that forces the brain to use and strengthen the neural pathways from the "weak" (amblyopic) eye. While effective, it can be difficult for children and does not directly train the eyes to work together.
BYNOCS is a modern, software-based binocular therapy. Instead of covering one eye (monocular), it presents images to *both* eyes (often through special glasses) in a way that trains them to work as a team. It's often more engaging for children as it's game-based.
Treatment is most effective in young children (before age 7-9) as the brain is more adaptable (plastic). However, recent studies and newer binocular therapies like BYNOCS have shown that vision can still be improved in many older children and even adults.
