A Window to Your Eye's Health

Gonioscopy in Mumbai

At Trivision Eye Hospital in Mumbai, we utilize a specialized diagnostic technique called Gonioscopy to gain invaluable insights into the health of your eyes. Gonioscopy provides a clear view of the drainage angle of your eye, helping us assess and classify different types of Glaucoma.

This technique allows us to visualize the angle where the iris meets the cornea. Issues with this angle can block fluid drainage, leading to increased intraocular pressure and, if left untreated, permanent vision loss.

Why is it done?

  • Early Detection: To identify signs of Primary Open-Angle or Angle-Closure Glaucoma.
  • Customized Care: The information obtained helps us tailor your treatment plan (e.g., Laser Iridotomy vs. Drops).
  • Drainage Angle Assessment: To see if the drain is open, narrowed, or closed.

Common Questions

FAQ: Gonioscopy Test

No. We numb your eye with anesthetic drops before the test. A special contact lens is gently placed on the surface of your eye. You may feel the lens touching your eyelashes or eyelids, but it is not painful.

Eye pressure alone doesn't tell us why the pressure is high. Gonioscopy lets us see the drainage angle. If the angle is "closed," it's a medical emergency or requires laser treatment. If it's "open," it requires a different approach. This distinction is crucial.

The procedure is very quick, typically taking less than a few minutes for both eyes. Your vision might be slightly blurry for a short time afterward due to the gel used with the lens.
